The island Aholansaari was the home of the 18th century farmer and revivalist Paavo Ruotsalainen.
Aholansaari is located in Nilsiä, a stone’s throw from the holiday resort Tahko, and is nowadays a multifunctional camp and holiday centre. We offer modern accommodation, teaching and conference facilities for confirmation camps, seminars as well as meetings. Due to its cultural and historical value the island is also a unique setting e.g. for family reunions. A divine service in the quiet Paavon pirtti fits well in the Finnish spiritual life.
The heart of the island is the historically valuable Paavon pirtti – a cottage with a scent of smoke and full of atmosphere. This is a place where our guests can relax, surrounded by the beautiful nature.
In the opera The Last Temptations, Paavo’s wife Riitta calls out to her husband: ”Come to the island!”. Today we want to welcome you to the island.
